Back to Android

17Apr2011

Thinik it's time to get back to doing some Android projects.

I'm going to create a Pennsylvanis River stages app as yet another practice app. Going to have to use this site to store scraped NWS hydrologic informaiton using PHP and MySQL first though. Then the Android app can hit this site for a quick data fix as opposed to forcing every end user phone to directly hit a data heavy HTTP site and scrape on the phone.

first thing's are first though...need to find my login to this site :)

Android app mentioned on CNN

14Jun2010

I recently created an Android application named Oil Reporter Map that displays user submitted incidents related to the BP Deepwater disaster. It integrates with a Crisis Commons based site to retrieve and display incidents and photos via a JSON based API. My application was mentioned (albeit very briefly) in a recent CNN article

Droid!

10Dec2009

Working with the Android SDK. It's superb in my opinion. All Java with the Java SE APIs available. The eclipse IDE integration is fantastic. I was able to create a small app to show my current location on a google map view on my phone and post that location to a web site within an hour just knowing Java. Compared to learning Objective C on the iPhone and paying Apple $99 a year for the 'right' to develop on their platform I'll take it.

Pentax K-20D DSLR

15Nov2009

I recently purchased a Pentax K20-D DSLR. Really haven't taken a lot of pictures since my younger days and I've had the itch recently. What an amazing piece of well crafted hyper engineered technology.

Facebook API

30Jul2009

Since I now have a site to host my PHP and MySQL I'm working on a facebook App. I'm trying to decide how real the commercial value-add is for building such apps. I think the volume on the hype with business getting on Facebook and Twitter is a bit high. However there is certainly value-add to working on the ole Web 2.0 integration skills.

Building a Drupal LAMP powered site

29Jul2009

Having recently worked as part of a two person team desiging and implementing a Drupal powered LAMP stack site I have decided to create my own as both a personal web presence and a sandbox for testing various technologies and honing my chops.
